Choosing to call a specialist or head to a garage for windscreen replacement
If you are unlucky enough to have a damaged or broken windscreen or other car or van window then you will want to get back on to the road as quickly as possible and also as cheaply as possible. At the same time it is also important to be safe and have a repair or replacement that will last and save you having to pay out again later.
Now firstly for replacements, it may seem easier and quicker to go to your local garage perhaps one you visit for other work on your car. The problem starts in getting there if you have no windscreen or a dangerous windscreen unless you are going to don a pair of driving goggles. If you manage to get it to a garage chances are if they will do the replacement that they will have to order the specific windscreen in for you, it could well be a few days before you can use your vehicle again. Also replacing a windscreen is difficult as it must be done with a great deal of precision to make sure that it wont crack or shatter: what can happen is that a badly replaced windscreen can have pressure either from the sides or on certain points that lead to stresses on the glass that can lead to cracks and even shattering. It is better to use an auto glass specialist who can come out to you with a windscreen from their stock if you have a popular vehicle and then an experienced windscreen fitter can repair your windscreen. Likewise for small cracks and chips that can be mended an autoglass specialist can come out to you with the tools and tricks of their trade to do a repair in minutes meaning you can then get back to driving straight away.
