Following your wash with the sponge, you should also wipe down the auto glass with water to wash away soap suds that would otherwise leave marks, and you should then wipe down the car once again with a dry cloth and this can prevent water marks. If you do not observe this last step then you will end up leaving wet marks on the glass that appear streaky and in some ways more unappealing than the mess would have in the first place. Of course failing this you can opt simply to have your glass cleaned by a professional cleaning service or to go through a drive through cleaner.

Another thing to consider is your windshield wipers. These are important as they allow you to clean your car as you go, thereby avoiding collecting dirt and mess as you go. It’s important to top these up regularly to ensure you can always use them, and to make sure that you have the correct balance of water and soap in there to avoid soap marks again.

However failing this, windshield replacement would allow you to completely replace both windshields and this would then mean that you had auto glass that was just the same as the old auto glass. This is useful for situations where the glass is broken more severely and just fixing one layer would not solve the problem.

This then will leave you with completely repaired auto glass that is as good as new and that allows you to look out of it as well as you would if it had never been damaged.

All that is left then is to ensure that you manage to keep the layers of glass looking clean and clear so that there are no other blemishes marking it. This means using the right products particularly, washing with a sponge that has been soaked in water and car window cleaner. Make sure that the product you use is designed specifically for use on auto glass and this will help to ensure it doesn’t leave sticky marks while ensuring that it does get rid of anything that is stuck on the glass.

The way this will normally work is to fill the dent or chip with something that will solidify. The good news is that normally a chip or crack will not actually result in there being a direct hole through and out, but instead in just external damage. The reason for this is that a windshield is in fact not made of a single pane of glass but two that are completely identical. These two panes of glass are then pressed together with no spaces so that they appear as one. Between those two panes of glass though is a layer of laminate plastic. The idea then is that the laminate plastic will hold the two panes of glass together in the scenario that they should break. This then in turn will mean that a stone would normally only go through the one layer of glass resulting in just a chip or scratch that affected the surface and a second inside layer that was completely find and untouched.

All this then means that you can benefit from auto glass repair in many cases without needing to replace the entire windshield. This is because only one layer of glass needs to be repaired which can be achieved with filler.

For instance, make sure to avoid parking under trees where debris, sap and other problems can ruin your windshield and other auto glass. Likewise be sure to avoid parking too close to busy roads, and certainly gravel tracks. If you can find somewhere out of the way and keep your car hidden as much as possible, then this will help you to maintain good auto glass and to avoid problems.

If you do get a chip or a scratch however then it’s time to get auto glass repair or windshield replacement and it is important to do this as early as possible in order to avoid it getting worse over time. The longer you leave a chip or scratch the more it will grow over time and this can be enough to eventually cause something that can threaten to completely shatter the glass. It is highly important then that you get the auto glass repair as soon as possible to make the job as small as it can be.

The great thing about auto glass repair or windshield replacement is that it may be covered by your car insurance. This then means that you can get your car windshield repaired at no cost.

This means being careful where you park when your car is at home and when you are out and about. Of course there are many different things that can damage your auto glass or your windshield if you park without protection and these can include things thrown up from the road as cars drive past, things that fall from above (such as acorns or things dropped by birds), and of course there’s always the possibility that someone will scratch your window vindictively – and sad though it is if you have a nice car then this is almost always a possibility.

This then means that if you have the ability to park off-road, and particularly if you can shelter your vehicle in say a garage, that you should certainly jump at this opportunity. If you don’t have a garage or something to that kin, then you may want to invest in one in order to protect your auto glass.

When parking not in a garage, either because you don’t have one or when you are out and about, then there are some other slight precautions you can take.

Furthermore, you can also have dirt and dust fly up from the car in front and these are just as likely to cause problems if they stick themselves onto your windshield. You need to make sure this doesn’t happen by leaving a good gap between you and that car. This way you will also find that you are less likely to have a crash if they stop suddenly.

You also need to make sure that you don’t use your windshield wipers unless they appear to be safe to use. This means in particular not to use them when you have mud or dirt on your windshield and not to use them when they are damaged. Doing either can cause the wipers themselves to scratch the glass.

The other way to avoid needing auto glass repair is to think carefully about where you are going to park your car when it’s not in use. Just as many chips and scratches can occur to your car when you’re parked as they do when you’re driving.

In rare cases driving on gravel or dirt will be unavoidable. Some whole regions have these roads as their main roads and these places will be bad for your auto glass whichever way you go. So what do you do to avoid needing auto glass repair?

The first thing to do is to make sure to drive slower. When you drive fast this of course is more likely to throw those small stones up and into your own windshield, so driving slower will make sure that you are driving over them and not through them. Meanwhile you should drive with a good distance behind the car in front. This way you will avoid getting stones and debris thrown up in your car windshield which would cause you to need windshield repair. If you are close behind then you are going to get the majority of the stones they kick up which fly behind.

Keeping your distance from the car in front this way is good advice in general. Even when you aren’t on gravel roads, things can still fly up from the tarmac and if you pull back those things will be less likely to hit you.
